Kim ResidenceAlthough I have been working at A1 Construction within real estate development, my first full design project was my family residence — the first time I was able to fully realize and execute the design concepts that I envisioned. This project was especially meaningful because it is the place where my family will be making our memories.
I envisioned a space where we could experience the refinement of a luxury hotel in our everyday living. When bringing this to life, my goal was for us to never feel the need to “go somewhere” to enjoy something beautiful — we could simply be in our own sanctuary. I aimed for a sophisticated atmosphere that remains warm and livable.
The completed design is a residence that carries an indoor-outdoor quality, reminiscent of a café or boutique hotel, yet grounded in comfort and intimacy. All furnishings including lighting, color scheme, and textures, reflect this balance. There is a thoughtful blend of French and Korean traditional elements with modern contemporary art throughout the details, architecture, and furniture. Many people hesitate to use such components in residential design because they seem too commercial, but I wanted to show that these details, often found in hotels or cafés, can enrich a home and infuse it with a sense of quiet luxury.
